Well, not exactly idiots, but  many of us are not familiar with coworking spaces. Coworking or shared offices is one of the new office space solutions in town. The basic concept of coworking spaces is that instead of buying or renting a  whole space which you will not need, you can rent a small space and share with others.

This set up is perfect for startups who are just venturing into the business world or a company who has only a number of employees. With a shared space, you can just get a space or desk to operate your business and reduce the overhead cost. Most offices include utilities and amenities on the package so you don’t have to worry about it.

Sounds good, right?

But the biggest hurdle is finding the right one. Although the concept is fairly new, there are space owners in key cities that are offering this office service. With the growing numbers of serviced offices, how can you get that right space?

INC.com shared some tips that may help you on your coworking space-hunting.

1. Be a freeloader. But just for a day. Since there are a lot of coworking space in the metro today, you need to at least get the feeling of having one. Ask for a free day to try out the space and see if you feel like staying.

2. Office Tools. Make sure the space have all the things you need to operate your business – from the space down to the equipment.

3. Culture. A coworking space house diverse people with different personalities, but there is one thing that bonds them together – culture. See if your beliefs and habits are in line with the people inside. It will help you fit right in.

4. Inspiration. Coming to work is already dreadful; make it bearable by choosing a place that inspires you – may it be the space or your companions.

5. Lease Terms. Since you are just starting, it is important to know the terms and is it flexible enough to accommodate your needs.

6. Room to Grow. As a company, you want to branch out and expand. Be sure that your space promotes such values.

7. Workspace Management. Little printers such as jammed printers, air conditioning not working can be a hassle. Be sure that your space owner has adequate manpower and equipment to solve those things.

8. Collaboration. Sharing is the main advantage of collaborative spaces. If you find your co-tenants being secretive to the point of being elusive, then it is better to leave.

9. Productivity. This is what you aim for – be productive. Although some office design scheme have open office plan, it can be distracting. Be sure to have a correct balance of privacy and openness to get the job done.

10. Design. This aspect is vital for tenants. If they find the design too much or too thin for their taste, they would turn around without a second thought. Choose a space with a design that inspires you.
